[pi'nɛ], Antoine, französischer Politiker, * Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise (Département Rhône) 30. 12. 1891, ✝ Saint-Chamond (Département Loire) 13. 12. 1994; Industrieller; 1929-77 Bürgermeister von Saint-Chamond, war 1936-38 Abgeordneter (Fraktion der Unabhängigen Radikalen), 1938-40 Senator, unterstützte P. Pétain; 1946-58 Abgeordneter der Unabhängigen Republikaner. Als Ministerpräsident und Finanzminister (März-Dezember 1952) führte er erfolgreich antiinflationäre Maßnahmen durch. Durch die Verschlechterung der Situation in Indochina und Nordafrika und wegen des Widerstandes gegen sein Steuerreformprogramm geschwächt, musste er aufgrund seiner ablehnenden Haltung in der Debatte um den EVG-Vertrag zurücktreten. 1955-56 war Pinay Außenminister im Kabinett Faure; er förderte den Prozess der Entkolonialisierung in Tunesien und Marokko. Mai 1958 unterstützte er die Berufung C. de Gaulles zum Ministerpräsidenten. Als Finanz- und Wirtschaftsminister (1958-60) war Pinay maßgeblich an der Reform des französischen Währungssystems (Einführung des »Nouveau Franc«) beteiligt, trat 1960 wegen Differenzen über die Wirtschafts- und Bündnispolitik de Gaulles zurück.
